Local sports calendar

Registration, tryouts

• Registration is under way for First Kids Basketball. Fees are $40 for grades 1 and 2 and $45 for grades 3-6. Forms are available at the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church of Dalton.

• The Dalton Parks and Recreation Department’s youth basketball registration is available by calling Steve Roberts at (706) 281-1223 or going online at dprdsports.com through Nov. 27. Age groups for boys and girls are 4-year-olds, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12.

• Dalton Parks and Recreation Department adult basketball begins the week of Jan. 11. Open A and B or church league openings are available. Registration is $385 for 10-game regular season, $275 for six-game season; includes a single-elimination tournament. Contact Alex Sullins at (706) 281-1222 or asullins@cityofdalton-ga.gov.



Competitions

• Big Brothers Big Sisters’ seventh Silver Bell Sprint is scheduled for the evening of Dec. 4 with a 5-kilometer run and walk that starts and finishes at City Park School. First 500 to register at active.com will receive a goody bag and T-shirt.

• The 22nd Carpet Capital 10-miler and 5K races are scheduled at 9 a.m. on Dec. 12 at Varnell Elementary School. Race day registration begins at 8 a.m. It is the RRCA Southern Region championship race



Clinics

• The Northwest Whitfield High School baseball coaching staff will conduct winter hitting and pitching clinics on Nov. 15 and 22, Dec. 6 and 13 and Jan. 10 and 17 for third through seventh grade boys. Cost is: $40 per session; $35 per session if attending four or more sessions; $400 for all 12 sessions (six hitting, six pitching). Space is limited. Hitting sessions start at 2:30 p.m. and pitching sessions at 4:30 p.m.; both will be held at the school’s baseball field or auxiliary gym, depending on weather.
