Join the Georgia State Golf Association

It’s easy to “Get Linked” at www.gsga.org

Submitted by Georgia State Golf Association

Now that the spring season has arrived, it’s an opportune time to revitalize one’s golf game and join the Georgia State Golf Association. Through its website, www.gsga.org, GSGA makes it easy for golfers of all ages and skill levels to “get linked” and enjoy all the benefits of membership.

GSGA membership is open to any resident of Georgia and provides valuable services for anyone interested in the game of golf. The key benefit of GSGA membership is the USGA Handicap Index, an excellent tool for tracking and improving one’s game. As an additional benefit of the handicap service, members who join GSGA online will automatically receive their handicap revisions by e-mail every four weeks, a service called eRevisions. In addition to the updated Handicap Index, eRevisions contain other valuable information such as scoring record, Index history and GSGA news. It also includes a convenient printable handicap card to cut out and use as proof of one’s Handicap Index.

GSGA members also have the option of posting their scores via the Internet. The vast majority of GSGA Member Clubs now allow this service, offering a convenient method to make sure one’s scores get posted.

Membership in GSGA also provides other valuable benefits, including:

• A subscription to Golf Georgia magazine, delivered to the member’s home six times a year

• Eligibility for some of GSGA’s 20 statewide competitions

• Special recognition for Club Champions, Most Improved Golfers, holes-in-one and unique feats on the course

• Access to GSGA RewardLinks, a rewards program featuring exclusive discounts and opportunities for golf-related events and items as well as other sporting events across Georgia

• Access to GSGA Birdies & Bargains, an online shopping and entertainment discount program tailored specifically for GSGA members

Additionally, GSGA membership helps support programs that benefit all golfers in Georgia, including course rating and measuring, scholarships for club employees and future superintendents, tournament and rules assistance to clubs, and industry advocacy efforts to protect the game.

An individual’s GSGA membership is maintained at one of over 360 GSGA Member Clubs across the state of Georgia. Previously, interested individuals could join GSGA by signing up through a Member Club in his/her area. While that option remains available, individuals can now make application to one of over 70 Member Clubs currently participating in the online membership initiative. A complete list of those clubs is below.

The three-step application process for joining GSGA online is streamlined, simple and secure. Interested individuals should log on to www.gsga.org and click the “Join GSGA Now!” button. The first step provides information and instructions which should answer any initial questions. In the second step, applicants can view a map of Georgia showing the locations of participating Member Clubs, along with contact information and web site links to those clubs. After selecting a “home” club, applicants complete the third and final step – a brief application and credit card payment (VISA, Mastercard or American Express accepted). Dues for 2008 calendar-year memberships are just $35.

Once the process is complete, applicants will receive a confirmation e-mail with information detailing when they can start posting scores and expect to receive their USGA Handicap Index.

The online membership option is for new GSGA members only. Current members wanting to renew their membership for 2008 must do so through their current home club, or transfer to another club with their active membership (GHIN) number.

GSGA gift memberships are also available. The online application features an option to purchase a membership on someone’s behalf and send a gift card to the recipient at no additional cost.

For more information or questions regarding GSGA membership, please contact the Member Services department at 770-955-4272 or 800-949-4742 or e-mail info@gsga.org.

Founded in 1916, the Georgia State Golf Association (GSGA) received its official charter on June 24, 1924. Since that date, the GSGA has grown to one of the largest state amateur golf associations in the country, with over 365 member clubs and 85,000 individual members. With a mission to promote and preserve amateur golf in the state of Georgia, GSGA offers a computerized handicapping service, course rating and measuring, and annually conducts a full schedule of statewide competitions for men and women of all age groups. Other services include a summer-long junior sectional program, award-winning Golf Georgia magazine, membership recognition and rewards programs and a charitable foundation administering two college scholarship programs.
