Citizen of the Week: Michelle Pritchett

When Deputy Michelle Pritchett left her post at the Whitfield County Courthouse for a short drive to the Sheriff’s Office on June 24, she had no idea she was minutes away from helping to save a baby’s life.

Pritchett didn’t get far before a funeral procession commanded her respect. As she waited, suddenly a very emotional motorist approached her, saying an infant wasn’t breathing. Pritchett immediately left her vehicle and began CPR on the baby. Shortly thereafter, the 911 director arrived to give her a break and take over CPR duties. Pritchett took that time to make sure an ambulance was on its way and assist with the CPR. She stayed until paramedics arrived and left with the baby.

“I think she did a great job,” said Lt. Steven Fields of Court Services. “She was approached by a citizen and did what she was supposed to do. Deputy Pritchett does an outstanding job day to day and went above and beyond by helping with the baby and doing CPR.”

For her quick response and for her service to the community on a daily basis, The Daily Citizen names Deputy Michelle Pritchett Citizen of the Week.
