DSC plans trips to Italy, Canada
Previews of a Canadian Winter Wonderland and sunny Italia await those who attend the DSC Destinations information session Tuesday, July 29, 6 p.m. at the James E. Brown Center on the Dalton State campus.
Over regional treats, participants will learn plans of two upcoming trips: a December excursion to Quebec featuring luxury accommodations and shopping/museum opportunities as well as a spring 09 tour of Italy, featuring visits to Rome, Florence, Venice, Como and Milan.
“The trips are equally exhilarating and completely different,” said Carol Burton, DSC Destinations coordinator. “Quebec Holiday, offered December 11-17, will take travelers sightseeing through Montreal, Charlevoix and Quebec City. We hope there will be snow, and the beautiful hotels will be decorated for the holidays.”
Special features of the tour include fine dining, ample opportunities for holiday shopping, and visits to museums showcasing Canada’s culinary heritage.
Reflections of Italy is a 10-day tour scheduled for March 24-April 2, 2009 and features the country’s most well-known cities of Rome, Florence and Venice. “For our first Italian adventure, we chose an Italian sampler rather than concentrate on any one region,” said Courtney Yarbrough who also coordinates travel learning programs for Dalton State. “If you’ve dreamed of taking in the sights, smells, sounds and flavors of Italy, this tour will not disappoint,” she promises.
Among the highlights will be opportunities to visit classical Rome, seeing the Colosseum, the Arch of Constantine, the Piazza Venezia and Trevi Fountain. Also, Assisi and the Basilica of St. Francis and view the preserved medieval Perugia. In Florence, the “Cradle of the Italian Renaissance,” travelers will visit the world-famous Academy Gallery to see Michelangelo’s Statue of David as well as be delighted by narrow Gothic streets, magnificent palaces, and the historic Piazza del Campo. The tour ends with visits to Venice, Murano Island, the beautiful resort town of Como in the Italian lake district, and Milan.
The free information session is open to all who have an interest in either or both trips. A representative of Collette vacations will be on hand to make a presentation and answer questions. In addition, there will be information on other upcoming DSC Destination trips to the Len Foote Hike-Inn (Fall 2008), Ireland (November 2009) and Oberammergau Passion Play (May 2010) for those who may be interested in those excursions.
The information session is free, but registration is encouraged. To register, or for more information about any DSC Destination program, those interested should call Carol Burton at 706-272-4582 or email HYPERLINK "mailto:travel@daltonstate.edu" travel@daltonstate.edu.
