Sept. 10

• Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4985 will have bingo Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. Cost is $7 with $1,500 in prizes awarded. The Post is located on Veterans Drive in Dalton.



Sept. 12

• Descendants of A.C. “Adolph” Kendrick and Ethel Vineyard Kendrick will have a reunion Sept. 12 at Harry Griffin Park in Tunnel Hill. Please bring a two-liter drink and covered dish. Friends and relatives are invited. For more information, call Phyllis at (706) 397-2985.

• Descendants of Jesse and Parthenia Wilbanks will have a reunion Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Rotary Pavilion at Heritage Park in Dalton. All family and friends are invited.

• A rabies clinic will be held Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tractor Supply in Chatsworth. Veterinarian Emily Felker will administer rabies vaccines for $15. If your dog or cat is more than 1 year old and has previously been vaccinated for rabies, this vaccination will last three years. Canine distemper/parvo and bordetella vaccines will be available for $10 each. Feline leukemia vaccine is also $10. Heartworm checks will be $25. Felker will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Murray County Humane Society. Tractor Supply is at 43 Commerce Drive.



Sept. 12-13

• The 30th annual Pine Log Arts and Crafts Fair will be held Sept. 12-13 at the historic Pine Log United Methodist Church campground in Rydal. Dalton area residents Barbara Shadwick and Allen White will be among the exhibitors. Sept. 13

• The Parrott-Smith family reunion will be held Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. at the Murray County Senior Center. Please bring a covered dish and drink. All family and friends are welcome. The center is located on G.I. Maddox Parkway in Chatsworth.



Sept. 14

• Georgians for Fair Taxation, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization, will meet Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Walnut Square Mall meeting room. This will be an introduction to the FairTax bill (HR-25) and updates on national and local FairTax events. Walnut Square Mall is at 2105 E. Walnut Ave. in Dalton.



Sept. 15

• The League of Women Voters will meet Sept. 15 at 11:30 a.m. at Western Sizzlin’. Speaker Cheryl Wheeler, manager of the Whitfield County Health Department, will discuss swine flu. Angie Calloway, nurse supervisor of the children’s center, will discuss the swine flu vaccine for children. Western Sizzlin’ is located on Legion Drive in Dalton.



Sept. 16-17

Cole Brothers Circus of the Stars will be held Sept. 16-17 at the North Georgia Fairgrounds. Adult admission is $12 in advance or $17 at the gate. Sept. 17

• Dalton Whitfield Murray Retired Educators Association will kick off the 2009-2010 year Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. at Western Sizzlin’. The topics will be health insurance and Georgia Retired Educators Association benefits. A representative from Ross Woods Adult Day Care will discuss their services. All area retired teachers with the school systems or Dalton State College are invited. Western Sizzlin’ is located on Legion Drive in Dalton.

• A wellness program will be held Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Cohutta Community Center in Cohutta. The program will focus on seven lifestyle practices that can add 12 years to your life. The center is located on Red Clay Road.

Sept. 25-26

• The Dalton-Whitfield Regional Library will host its annual book sale Sept. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. and Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nearly free new and used books will be available. All proceeds support the library. The library is at 310 Cappes St., in Dalton.



Sept. 26

There will be live entertainment, dash plaques, a swap meet, dunking booths and activities for kids. National drag racing champions Norman Foster and Ron Parker will appear with their cars. Oct. 1-2

• The Dalton-Whitfield Senior Center will host an autumn flower show Oct. 1-2 at the center. Entries will be accepted from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. with judging to follow at 10. Divisions are horticulture and design. Horticulture includes potted plants, cut flowers, potted herbs and cut specimens of shrubs, trees, vines or ground covers. Design includes holiday table decor, welcome home, Indian harvest and potpourri. The show is open to ages 50 and up and will be open to the public after judging. • The Women’s Enrichment Center of Dalton will host a Walk/Ride for Life Oct. 3. The ride begins at 10:15 a.m. followed by the walk at 11. Registration begins at 9:30 for riders and 10:30 for walkers. The walk will be held at Mount Rachel Baptist Church at 1600 Haig Mill Road in Dalton; the ride begins at First Baptist Church at 311 N. Thornton Ave., in Dalton. Cost is approximately $5 to $30. St. Joseph’s Catholic Church’s annual October Fiesta will be held in conjunction at noon at 1775 Haig Mill Road in Dalton. Oct. 31

• Junior Achievement will host its first “5K for JA” with a free fun run Oct. 31. The fun run begins at 8 a.m. followed by the 5K at 9. The cost for the 5K run is $15 for adults, $10 for children 14 and under and $25 for families. T-shirts will be provided for all paid participants who register before Oct. 16.
