Not forgotten

Submitted by the Alzheimer’s Association Georgia Chapter

The first annual For Get Me? Not! motorcycle ride benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association Georgia Chapter was held Aug. 15.

Eighty-four bikes from Monticello, Calhoun, Ellijay, Blue Ridge and Dalton left the parking lot of the American Legion Post 167 in Chatsworth in an effort to raise funds to support programs and services for the more than 28,000 people affected by Alzheimer’s disease in North Georgia.

A volunteer reception was hosted by Melissa Boyd and Stanley Franklin at the Alzheimer’s office Aug. 28. Volunteers received a certificate of appreciation after watching the video of the ride and enjoying sandwiches provided by Amedisys North Georgia Home Health and pizza donated by Domino’s Pizza. A check for $4,830 was presented to the association at the wrap up.

“I am overwhelmed at the outpouring of support for this event,” said Freda Stephenson, director of development for the North Georgia regional office. “People from all walks of life participated in some way whether it was volunteering, donating or riding in the ride. Alzheimer’s touches the entire family and leaves no survivors. The Alzheimer’s Association greatly appreciates each and every supporter, volunteer and participant and would like to express a heartfelt thanks to everyone.

“Melissa Boyd and Stanley Franklin were instrumental in making the ride happen,” she continued. “Their dedication and attention to detail is amazing and very much appreciated. My only concern is how this group will outdo what they did this year.”
