Cancer Society event support appreciated

To the editor:

As chair of this year’s American Cancer Society Relay For Life committee, I would like to thank the residents of Whitfield County for their generosity and support. They were 28 teams participated in this year’s event, raising more than $108,000 for the American Cancer Society’s research, education, advocacy, and service programs. This outstanding show of support proves that the people of Whitfield County are truly committed to the fight against cancer.

We were honored to be joined by over 300 cancer survivors who walked the opening Survivor’s Lap, officially kicking off this year’s event. These survivors are the reason we continue the fight. Their participation inspires hope in those currently battling cancer.

A special thanks goes to the many Relay For Life volunteers who worked countless hours to make this event a huge success. The Relay For Life committee did an outstanding job of putting the event together. I would like to thank Becca Robertson, Julia Lansing, Gail Smith, Sheila Aaron, Laura Hall, Heather McEntire, and Tommy Bryant for serving on the 2008 committee. I would also like to thank the staff of the American Cancer Society, Natalie Phipps and Delores Toney for their support in this years Relay For Life.

We also appreciate the generosity of this year’s corporate sponsors. Relay For Life would not be possible without them.

Our 2008 corporate sponsors are Hamilton Health Care Systems, Mohawk, 11th Avenue Baptist Church, Dalton Utilities, Heartlite Hospice, SE Communications, Wal-mart, Family Pharmacy, Almatis, Beaulieu, Box 1, Brown Industries, Carpet Capital Fire Protection, Clayton Homes, Dalton Family Practice, Dalton Plastic Surgery, Dalton Surgical Group, Farm Bureau, Helen’s Hooters, Hamilton Regional Cancer Institute, Home Health Care Rentals, House of Beauty, JKH Architects, Kuebler Builders, Marketing Alliance, Mountain View Baptist Church, N GA Radiology, NWGA Hematology & Oncology, N GA Women’s Center, Pilgrim’s Pride, Ponders Funeral Home, Priority Care, Pye Automotive, Shaw, Shiroki NA, Signs Graphics Printing, Skin Cancer & Cosmetic Dermatology Center, Tandus, SCH Engineering, and Sugar-Plum Antiques.
