Be sure to pray for Charlie Troop

To the editor:

I just read the letter in The Daily Citizen from Sgt. Darrell E. Walker of Dalton’s own Charlie Troop deployed in Afghanistan.  What a powerful testimony to the evidence of something I already know to be true;  God hears and answers prayer!

At the Central Church of Christ, we have been praying for every member of Charlie Troop since the time they deployed in April of this year.   Rick Brown of Task Force Charlie came by our church with cards on which were the individual names of every soldier in the unit and asked that we consider distributing the names to our church members and commit to pray regularly for them. We were thankful for the opportunity to do so. The wonderful Christians here at Central excitedly took the names of each of the soldiers – some took several — and we have been praying for them on a regular basis, even daily.

God hears the prayers of His people, and as Sgt. Walker related in his letter, has so far chosen to spare the life of every soldier in Charlie Troop. We thank and praise God for that; and we continue to pray daily to Him for the safety and His care for each brave warrior. Our continual earnest and sincere prayer (as Sgt. Walker asked for) is that not a single member of Charlie Troop loses his or her life! And that every one of them will return to their friends and family here in our Dalton community.

I am sure that many other individuals and churches in our area are praying the same prayer. “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9) Our continued earnest prayers heard and answered by a loving and merciful God may very well bring every one of our brave men and women in Charlie Troop home ... if we continue to pray!
