Dalton Police say an early morning family argument on Feb. 4 led a son to set his parents’ home on fire.
Joshua Carter, 28, of Dalton, was charged Monday with felony first degree arson for setting fire to his parents’ home at 1104 Ridgeleigh Circle. The charge carries a maximum sentence of a $50,000 fine and/or 20 years in prison.
The fire occured at approximately 4 a.m. Carter was arrested the day of the arson on separate traffic charges and has remained in jail. Carter is also charged with several other crimes including driving as a habitual violator, no insurance and no tag.
The family had left the home at the time of the fire following the argument. The home was severly damaged.
