Strut Your Mutt coming up in March

Dalton Daily Citizen

Plans are under way for the Humane Society of Northwest Georgia’s ninth annual “Strut Your Mutt” dog walk and contests March 9 at 2 p.m. at Dalton State College.

You do not need a dog to participate. Dog “rentals” are available for the afternoon for $15.

Early entry/registration fee is $15 per dog if received by March 5 or $20 per dog after that and on the day of the event. The fee includes the walk, as many contests as you would like to enter, a “Strut Your Mutt” T-shirt, canine bandana and other items in a goody bag. A rain date is scheduled for March 16 at 2 p.m.

Dogs must be at least 6 months old. Owners must show proof of their pet’s current vaccinations at the time of the event (current rabies tag). No dogs in heat or aggressive dogs will be allowed. Only one dog per person, and dogs must be kept on leashes at all times. For safety reasons, retractable leashes should not be used.

This year’s judges are Debbie Freeman, principal of Dalton High School; Andrea Bradley, principal of North Whitfield Middle School; and Karey Williams, assistant principal of Valley Point Elementary School. Contests are Best Kisser, Wagginest Tail, Best Costume, Smallest Canine, Largest Canine and Look-a-Like. First place, second place and honorable mentions will be awarded in each category.

Registration forms are available at www.hsnwga.org; at veterinarian clinics, groomers and pet shops; and at other locations throughout the community. For more information, contact the Humane Society of Northwest Georgia at (706) 226-5002 or by mail at HSNWGA, P.O. Box 3946, Dalton, GA 30719.
