UPDATE: Wreck injures five

From Staff Reports

Five people were injured in a wreck at the intersection of Old Dixie Highway and Tilton Road in south Whitfield County Monday morning shortly after 8 a.m.

A Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman said a 1991 Honda Accord driven by Kathryn Wilson, 44, of Shelton Road in Resaca, was traveling south on Old Dixie when it ran a stop sign. The Accord collided with a 2007 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck driven by Israel Ayla, 28, of Tilton Road, who was traveling west on Tilton. The pickup left the road and struck a utility pole.

Taken to Hamilton Medical Center were Wilson and a 17-year-old in the Accord, and Ayla and his wife, Alejandra, and their 4-year-old child. Wilson was in fair condition Monday afternoon, said a spokeswoman with Hamilton. She could not give a condition on the Aylas.

Both roads were closed while the wreck was cleaned up. Crews from the North Georgia Electric Membership Corp. worked to reinstall several power lines that were knocked down.

Whitfield 911 received the call at 8:27 a.m.
