Man thrown 78 feet from wreck

By Kim Sloan
Dalton Daily Citizen

A Dalton man was airlifted to a Chattanooga hospital after he was thrown from his truck during a collision on the South Bypass Wednesday afternoon.

Lloyd Ellis, 70, was crossing the bypass at Ridge Road in his Dodge Ram truck when the truck was struck by a Geo Tracker driven by Kimberly Painter, 35, of Dalton, said Sgt. Joe Harrison of the Georgia State Patrol.

The wreck happened around 12:51 p.m., according to Whitfield County 911 officials.

Ellis was thrown from his vehicle and struck the Geo and was thrown approximately 78 feet before landing on the pavement, Harrison said. Ellis was not wearing a seat belt.

Ellis was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center with serious injuries and was listed in critical condition late Thursday afternoon.

Painter was taken by ambulance to Hamilton Medical Center.

Ellis failed to yield and may face charges, Harrison said.
