Newborn pups found in Dumpster

By Kim Sloan
Dalton Daily Citizen

Seven puppies were found in a taped-up box in a Dumpster, according to a report at the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office.

The box was enclosed in two garbage bags and was found Monday evening by a resident at the Stonebrook Apartments off Shugart Road after she heard the puppies crying, the report said.

The puppies were only a few hours old, said Sgt. Lee Amos, an animal control officer with the sheriff’s office.

The woman, who could not be reached for comment, is taking care of the puppies and feeding them with a syringe, he said.

Deputies are trying to find out who left them in the Dumpster.

“This is a rare occurrence,” Amos said. “To me it’s pretty bad. They could have been taken to the animal shelter instead of taping them up in a box and putting them in the garbage.”

Other garbage was in the bag with the puppies, the report said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Animal Control at (706) 259-2529.
