County reminds residents to recycle

County reminds residents to recycle

Whitfield County government recently celebrated National County Government Week with an emphasis on the county’s “green government” efforts.

Officials encourage residents to recycle. Although curbside recycling is not offered in the county, there are four convenient locations where residents can drop recycled goods plus lead acid batteries, used motor oil, scrap tires (there is a small fee for scrap tires) and yard trimmings.

Recycling locations:

• Old Dixie Landfill — 4189 Old Dixie Highway

• McGaughey Chapel Transfer Station — 819 McGaughey Chapel Road

• MLK Jr. Transfer Station — 1924 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard

• Westside Transfer Station — 2598 Landfill Road, Rocky Face

Residents will continue to see the county doing its part to go “green.” Recycling containers have been placed outside the Whitfield County Courthouse and at most of the county parks.
