— The Northwest Georgia Antique Tractor and Engine Club will host the 11th annual “Show and Shine” on June 14 at the North Georgia Fairgrounds from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Antique tractors, hit and miss engines, antique cars and street rods and machines will be exhibited. Special features are:
• The Busy Bee Club will demonstrate hand quilting and sale of their quilts. The club will draw the winning ticket for its “tractor quilt.”
• Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society representatives will have a booth open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. offering free DNA and fingerprint identification for children. There is no charge.
There will also be tractor games, activities for children, a women’s iron skillet throwing contest and a men’s wrench throwing contest. Admission and parking are free.

Kinards to be honored at Toast
The Family Support Council will host the annual Toast of the Town on June 19 at 6 p.m. at The Farm in Rocky Face. Bob and Dixie Kinard will be honored.
The Family Support Council is an agency in the community that supports programs that offer education and support for children and families. The mission statement is “Family Support Council exists to create a model community in which all children are safe, nurtured and empowered to reach their full potential.” The FSC thanks local companies and individuals for their support.

Open house today at women’s center
The Women’s Enrichment Center will have an open house today from 2 to 4 p.m. at its new facility at 109 W. Gordon St. in Dalton.
The center offers many free services to area families, including pregnancy tests, ultrasound scans, parenting classes through the “Earn While You Learn” program and an abstinence/character education program titled “You Are Unique.”
Participants in the “Earn While You Learn” program earn points to purchase baby clothing, items and furniture for their babies in the center’s Baby Store.

Candidates’ picnic set for Thursday
The League of Women Votes of the Dalton Area will hold a candidates’ picnic at the Dalton-Whitfield Senior Center on Thursday at 6 p.m. The league has invited all candidates running in the July 15 primary. The public is also invited. Food will be served, and the event is free.
The senior center is at 302 Cappes St.

Blackwell family reunion June 22
The family of the late William and Ethel Boyd Blackwell will hold a reunion at Fort Mountain State Park, Shelter 1, on June 22. The reunion starts at 10 a.m. with lunch at 1 p.m. Family and friends are invited.

Hearing set on downtown revisions
The city of Dalton Historic Preservation Commission and MACTEC Engineering and Consulting will hold a public hearing on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Dalton City Hall, 300 W. Waugh St. The purpose of the hearing is to obtain comments from the public regarding the revision of the Downtown Dalton Historic District Design Review Guidelines.

Murray GOP to host forum
The Murray County Republican Party will host a candidate forum for all Republican candidates on June 23 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Murray County Senior Center. Georgia 9th District Republican chairman Kevin Harris will serve as moderator.

Knitters to converge at Heritage Point
World Wide Knit in Public Day (www.wwkipday.com/) will be observed in Dalton on June 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Heritage Point Park. Ester Dabrowa with Krazy Knitz in Dalton said it is a free event and that people are invited to bring a lawn chair, their knitting and refreshments.

The City of Dalton Public Works Department will close a section of North Thornton Avenue from Trammell Street to Tyler Street for tree pruning on Thursday. Detours will be in place to avoid delays. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route if possible.

Harcros to close road for repairs
Harcros Chemical will close a portion of the road at 134 Phelps Road on June 16-17 due to railroad crossing spur repairs, according to the Whitfield County Public Works Department.
