Qualifying for city races starts next month

Qualifying for November’s municipal elections will start next month.
In Dalton, qualifying starts on Monday, Aug. 31, at 8:30 a.m. and will end on Friday, Sept. 4, at 4:30 p.m. The qualifying fee for City Council is $360 and for the Board of Education is $35. Qualifying will take place in the city clerk’s office at City Hall.
On the City Council, the seats for Ward 2 and Ward 4 will be up for election. Those seats are currently held by, respectively, Dick Lowrey and Charlie Bethel. Both said Wednesday they intend to run for re-election.
On the Board of Education, the seats currently held by Mark Orr and Steve Williams will be up for election. Both said Wednesday they plan to run for re-election.
In Tunnel Hill, qualifying for City Council races will start at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 31, and end Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 4:30 p.m. Qualifying will take place at City Hall. The qualification fee is $35.
Posts 3, 4 and 5 are up for election this year. Those seats are currently held by, respectively, Ray Anderson, Alfred “Hub” Griffin and Kenny Gowin.
Chatsworth will hold qualifying at City Hall on Monday, Aug. 31, through Friday, Sept. 4, during business hours. Qualifying fees for the City Council races are $144. Post 1 and Post 2, currently held by Margaret Adams and Ken Wilburn respectively, will be up for election.
Varnell city manager Mark Gibson said the City Council there has not yet set the dates for qualification but would probably do so at the next meeting on July 14.
Cohutta also has not set qualification yet.
A telephone message at Eton City Hall was not immediately returned Wednesday afternoon.
