New traffic light system for Walnut Avenue

From Staff Reports
Dalton Daily Citizen

Drivers may have noticed new traffic signals going up along Walnut Avenue. That’s part of a Georgia Department of Transportation project that includes numerous improvements to a dozen intersections on Walnut, which is also State Route 52.

Rickey Mallett, GDOT construction project manager, says the work will include new crosswalks, wheelchair ramps and signs, as well as new cameras at some of the intersections to monitor traffic. The work stretches from Thornton Avenue to State Route 286 and will also include synchronization of the signals.

“That will let the traffic move a little smoother,” Mallett said.

The $2.9 million project is expected to be finished by Sept. 1.
