Soccer game leads to arrests

Kim Sloan

A game of soccer ended abruptly Wednesday night when Whitfield County sheriff’s deputies arrested 16 people gathered on the football field at Eastbrook Middle School.

According to a report at the sheriff’s office, deputies discovered the game and called Principal Brian Satterfield, who told deputies no one should be playing on the football field. The fields have been locked for the summer because of vandalism, Satterfield said Friday. Last weekend, someone cut the post off the fence to get to the field, Satterfield said.

“It’s posted (no trespassing),” Satterfield said. “Most of the time we had left it open but we had so many break-ins.”

One of the men arrested, Manuel Ortiz Mendoza, 27, of 307 Gay St., Dalton, gave officers the name of Rene Lopez. After he was checked through the Immigration and Customs Enforcement database, deputies discovered he was Mendoza.

Mendoza is charged with first degree forgery, giving false information or a false name and criminal trespass.

The others charged with criminal trespass are:

• Jorge Antonio Alvarez-Sayaz, 23, 45 Daylily Lane, Chatsworth.

• Pedro Antonio Colindres, 21, 205 S. Grade Drive, Dalton.

• Hector Arnoldo Flores, 33, 437 11th Ave., Atlanta.

• Oscar Acevedo Flores, 37, 45 Daylily Lane, Chatsworth.

• Nery Agustin Linares, 25, 301 S. Grade Drive, Dalton.

• Francisco Alej Linares-Sifonte, 31, 301 S. Grade Drive, Dalton.

• Alberto Martinez, 51, 1175 Red Bird Lane, Dalton.

• Ernesto Martinez, 25, 45 Daylily Lane, Chatsworth.

• Erick S. Palama, 28, 930 Lake Road, Dalton.

• Genaro Garcia Ramirez, 46, 390 Wood Branch Drive, Dalton.

• Manuel Saens, 22, 45, Daylily Lane, Chatsworth.

• Carlos D. Saens-Gonzalez, 25, 45 Daylily Lane, Chatsworth.

• Oscar Rene Sayes, 26, 45 Daylily Lane, Chatsworth.

• Silvano Soreno, 20, 1105 Wilson Drive, Dalton.

• A 15-year old juvenile.

Criminal trespass is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
