Man sentenced to 40 years for Mallin slaying

Michael Dean Rhodes was sentenced Friday for the 2007 dual murder of Jeanette Radaker Rhodes and Bobby Mallin in Polk Superior Court.

Judge Richard C. Sutton sentenced Rhodes to 20 years on two counts for voluntary manslaughter, for a total of 40 years.

Mrs. Rhodes, 29, and Robert “Bobby” Mallin, 22, were slain at Mrs. Rhodes’ 206 Woodsmoke Road home in Rockmart on Feb. 16, 2007. (Mallin was a 2002 honors graduate of Northwest Whitfield High School.)

Police found Jeanette Rhodes’ body inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds. Mallin was found on the ground outside the home, the upper half of his body covered with a blanket. He also had multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said the victims were slain by shots from a .22-caliber rifle.

Rhodes’ family told police then the couple had separated, some eight months after marrying and moving into their Rockmart home. Michael Rhodes, who had moved in with family in Cobb County, reportedly had returned to the Rockmart house that day to pick up some belongings.
