Published July 22, 2008 11:05 pm - Shopping, donations up at Salvation Army Thrift Store By Mark Millican Dalton Daily Citizen CHATSWORTH — Even in an economic downturn, the Salvation Army Thrift Store here is seeing donations increase.
“We’ve been extremely busy the last two weeks,” said store manager Letitia Thompson on Tuesday, motioning at hundreds of donated items from just one day’s drop-offs. “We’ve been working our winter clothes out (from the donations) and hanging them up since people have been asking about them with school starting back.” Thompson said there has been an increase in shoppers “because of the economy — 40 percent over the last year at this same time, and even more than that the last three months.” Available are all types of men’s and women’s clothing, even in plus sizes, as well as children’s clothes. Designer items can also be found, such as Abercrombie & Fitch and American Eagle. There are dress shoes and tennis shoes, household items, toys and “an abundance of computers and monitors,” Thompson said. Volunteers to work at the store are always welcome, especially around Christmas time. The thrift store is located at 1415 Highway 76, also known as G.I. Maddox Parkway, across from the new CVS Pharmacy. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, call the store at (706) 422-8691.
