Chase leads to crash

From Staff Reports

A Dalton man is jailed after he attempted to run over officers during a chase in Whitfield County Wednesday night.

Ivan Rivero is charged with 12 counts of aggravated assault on a police officer and 16 other traffic charges. Michael Thomas, also of Dalton, is charged with theft by taking (motor vehicle), obstruction of a law enforcement officer and permitting another to violate state law.

The chase began when Dalton Police Department officers spotted a truck driven by Rivero, which was believed to have been stolen, at Veterans Drive near Mitchell Street, said Bruce Frazier, public relations specialist for the police department.

Whitfield County Sheriff’s Department deputies and Georgia State Patrol troopers joined the chase, which ended when the truck crashed. A complete report, including the location of the crash, was not available from the sheriff’s department Friday morning.

Rivero and Thomas remained in the Whitfield County jail Friday morning.
