Board awards Dalton High School expansion bid

Meco Builders of Chatsworth was awarded the contract for the Dalton High School expansion at a called Board of Education meeting Monday morning.

The $13.4 million project includes room for a new horticulture program, culinary arts space, science labs and technology labs. There are 28 “instructional spaces.”

The project will be funded primarily from the education Special Purpose Local Options Sales Tax (SPLOST) that was approved by voters in September 2006.

The amount of state funding is $1.15 million, said superintendent Orval Porter. The expansion is expected to be ready for students in January 2010.
