A Tennessee man was arrested in Dalton on Friday on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and attempted child molestation as part of a “sting operation,” an FBI spokesman said.
Jerry Lee Burton, 66, of 1659 Shelley Road, Decherd, Tenn., was being held in the Whitfield County Jail without bond on Monday.
Burton was the second Tennessee man arrested in Dalton in a week as part of a sting operation conducted by the Innocent Images Task Force. Travis Raymond Millsaps, 35, of Hixson, Tenn., was arrested on Aug. 8 on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, attempted child molestation and furnishing obscene material to a minor. He is out of jail on a $50,000 bond.
The cases are not related, said Stephen Emmett, a spokesman for the FBI in Atlanta.
“These are stings, no children involved,” he said. Asked for more details, he said, “Not going into it.”
The Innocent Images Task Force is a regional task force that targets online sexual child exploitation and child pornography. Officers with the Dalton Police Department, the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office, the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office and the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department participate.
