Whitfield County has a video on its Web site (www.whitfieldcountyga.com) explaining three proposed state constitutional amendments for 2008. The county encourages all residents to view the video to become more informed about the amendments on the November ballot.
• Georgia Forestland Protection Act: The amendment encourages the preservation of Georgia’s forests through a conservation use property tax reduction program. The act requests owners of 200 acres or more to sign a 15-year contract to keep the property as forestland. The owner would suffer penalties if the contract is broken.
• Redevelopment Powers Act: The amendment authorizes local school districts to use tax funds for community redevelopment purposes.
• Infrastructure Development Districts Act: The amendment authorizes the creation of special infrastructure development districts providing infrastructure to underserved areas.
The video can be found on the Web site under Boards of Elections and Registrar, then click on “Proposed Amendments to the Georgia Constitution-Video.”
