Address project wrapping up

The Whitfield County Address Project is entering its final phase as 2,500 to 3,000 city of Dalton residents were notified of their new addresses in a mail-out this week.

The new addresses will take effect on Nov. 15, and the county-funded project will be almost complete, except for maintenance-type issues.

The project’s goal has been to clear up confusing addresses that might make it difficult for emergency responders to find a location in times of need.

Residents with questions regarding their address change are encouraged to call the toll-free number listed on the address change letter. GeoComm will receive the calls and verify that the information is correct and answer any questions that they may have. 

If GeoComm cannot satisfy the resident, GeoComm will forward the call information to the local Project Team, which will provide the available assistance. 

Whitfield County officials said this week’s mailing will conclude the bulk of the address changes for the county.

Approximately 10,000 other addresses in the rural 30720 and 30721, Rocky Face, Ringgold, Resaca, Cohutta and Tunnel Hill zip code areas have already been changed. 

Officials are asking that anyone who lives on a private road, knows that the name has changed, and has not received a letter of notification to call 1-888-436-2666 toll-free Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and ask for the Whitfield County Project Team.
