Man charged with sex crimes denied bond

Mark Millican

A Dalton man has been accused of sexual crimes against a child after he spent the night at the child’s home in Rocky Face, authorities say.

Jerry Martin Stanley Jr., 20, of 104 Kilby Drive, was charged Tuesday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with aggravated sexual battery and child molestation/aggravated child molestation. The incident was reported on Oct. 22.

Stanley spent the night at the residence and the child’s mother said he “did admit” that he molested the 12-year-old girl, according to an incident report. The mother found a note written by the daughter saying she had “come on to Jerry,” meaning the girl initiated the episode, according to the report.

“Although it was consensual, he knew her age and what he was doing,” said Maj. John Gibson with the sheriff’s office. Gibson said the girl is not related to Stanley.

Magistrate Judge Sidney Baxter refused bond for Stanley on Wednesday. He will have a Superior Court appearance, possibly on Friday.
