Citizen of the Week: Miryam Ramirez

Miryam Ramirez just became a U.S. citizen a few short months ago, but she’s very busy exhibiting her love for her new country by her work in the community.

The 20-year old works parttime for United Way as an information and referral specialist, a job she has held for three years. Ramirez is not content to coast in the position by doing the least amount of work required. Instead, those who call United Way for assistance are guaranteed to get what they need and then some.

“She is extremely dependable and helps with all of United Way’s Spanish campaign translations, even if that means presenting to a plant in the middle of the night,” said Amy Grammar, marketing and technology director.

But Ramirez is not satisfied with leaving it at that.

She spends much of her spare time helping an elderly neighbor do things she can’t do for herself, such as shopping, putting up her Christmas tree and cleaning. She also volunteers with St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and represents United Way at ACLA (Latin American Community Alliance), assisting the organization.

And because of Ramirez’ help, many of her friends, family and associates are well on their way to becoming citizens as well.

Because of her selfless service to United Way and the community, The Daily Citizen names Miryam Ramirez Citizen of the Week.
