Managed Hunts

2009-10 Hunting Season

Deer Firearms Season

There are three scheduled firearms deer hunts on the Berry College Wildlife Management Area during the 2009-10 academic year. These are quota hunts, and hunters must be registered in advance to take part. Information is as follows:

· Buck Only (either sex the last two days) & Bear: Nov. 4-7

· Either Sex & Bear: Dec. 2-5

· Either Sex: Jan. 16-18, 2010

All gates into the wildlife management area will be open the day before each hunt for scouting.

During these hunts only permitted hunters will be allowed on the Wildlife Management Area. All other activity is PROHIBITED. This includes jogging, bicycling, etc.

All interior gated roads and/or trails leading from the main or mountain campuses onto Berry's Wildlife Management Area will take you into the hunting areas. These areas will be posted with warning signs by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. It is very important that you pay close attention to the hunting dates and stay clear of the hunting areas.

The main campus and the mountain campus are protected by a buffer zone which is called the Berry College Refuge. Hunters are not allowed inside the Refuge Area (Buffer Zone).

No weapon of any type is allowed on the Refuge Area. Hunters may not access the Wildlife Management Area from campus.

Special Regulations: There is no open season for the taking of wildlife on the Berry College Refuge. Firearms and archery equipment are prohibited on the Refuge. Hunters may not use the main campus for gaining access. Horse, bicycle and foot trails are closed all day during deer firearms season and before 10 a.m. during deer archery and turkey season. ATVs prohibited. Please note that the paved Viking Trail connecting the main and mountain campuses will remain open during hunts.
