Jamie Jones: Ex-WWE star Lesnar in battle with diverticulitis

Here are the news and notes from the week in the world of professional wrestling:

• Brock Lesnar has proved he’s one of the toughest guys in the country. Now, the former WWE star and current MMA performer is facing a battle that is testing his mettle. Lesnar was released this week from a stay at a South Dakota hospital with an intestinal infection. WWE announcer Jim Ross wrote on his blog that Lesnar has an uphill battle ahead.

“Hopefully, diverticulitis is all that is going on with Brock because if that’s the case I think that he can likely fight again in several months,” Ross wrote. “Issues with the colon however may dictate a different story. This is a hugely painful ordeal and I was stupid enough to work about a month’s worth of Raw’s before the Mrs. forced me to see a doctor.”

• The Pontiac Silverdome, the site of one of pro wrestling’s greatest matches, was recently sold for $583,000. The building cost more than $55 million to build in the 1970s. The arena hosted Wrestlemania 3 where a record number of fans watched Hulk Hogan bodyslam — then pin — Andre the Giant.

The Local Corner: Billy Jester’s tag team partner, Crazy, didn’t show up last weekend. So Jester was forced to wrestle The Sheepherders by himself. Somehow, Jester was able to fend off both wrestlers and win the match.

TWA runs Fridays at 8 p.m. in the TWA Arena off Reed Road in north Whitfield County, about 3 miles north of the bypass. The Action Zone runs Saturdays at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for kids 6 to 12. Kids younger than 6 are free. Any military member with proper identification will be admitted free.
