Equine commission to meet Monday in Valdosta

The Georgia Equine Commodity Commission will meet Monday, May 19, in Valdosta.

The meeting is part of an ongoing series of tours of potential locations for new equine facilities and to acquaint the public with the work of the commission. On Monday the commission will inspect a site in Lake Park in hopes of building a new equine facility on the property.

The ECC was founded in 2007 to help promote the equine industry in Georgia. It unveiled a new specialty license plate in March. Approximately 670 tags have already been ordered. To begin production, 1,000 will have to be ordered by the end of the year.

All proceeds from the equine car tags will provide needed funds for promotion, research and educational programs for the state’s equine industry.

The equine license plate can be ordered by filling out an Application for a Special Interest License Plate (specifying “Georgia Equine Industry”) at any motor vehicle tag office. A one-time manufacturing fee of $25 will be required at the time of order (this will apply to the tag or it will be refunded if the tags are not produced). Those who order the tag should be sure to obtain a receipt after payment.
