A Floyd County Sheriffs deputy who was arrested after an alleged altercation at Rome High School has been dismissed from the Floyd County Sheriff's Office.
The FCSO released this information today:
As has been reported at an earlier time, Jail Officer Melissa McKissick has been the subject of an internal investigation regarding a matter that occurred on the afternoon of April 8, 2009, at Rome High School.
On April 15, 2009, Jail Officer McKissick was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the internal investigation. On April 27, 2009, Jail Officer McKissick was given an opportunity to clear her name through the investigation. The internal investigation is complete and the report shows that Ms. McKissick acted in a manner inconsistent with the standards of a sheriffs office employee.
She has been found to be in violation of numerous Floyd County Personnel Board Policies and Floyd County Sheriffs Office General Orders. Accordingly, due to the nature of these violations, her employment with the Floyd County Sheriffs Office has been terminated effective immediately.
We have to hold ourselves to a higher standard of behavior and its always disappointing when we fail to, but more importantly we set a poor example for the kids and teachers that day and thats what concerns me the most, stated Chief Deputy Tom Caldwell.
She has the right to file an appeal of this administrative decision to the Floyd County Personnel Board.
