Busy week for Bagley Quiz Bowl
Submitted by Bagley Middle School
Two quiz bowl competitions for Bagley Middle School were held recently. Team 7-Black won an intramural event while the regular team came out on top in an eight-team tournament at Eastbrook Middle School.
In the school year’s second intramural tournament, Stetson Gunnoe was again named Most Valuable Player. Other All-Stars were seventh-graders Seth Peden, Ben Pedigo, Hudson Bryant, Bailey Adams and Tyson Beaty along with eighth-graders Chase Kelley and Hagen Steelman.
Teams 7-Black and 8-Black tied with two wins and a single loss, but the seventh-graders boasted 225 total points to the eighth-graders’ 170 to take first place. In a round-robin competition on Nov. 4, team 8 Black had a perfect 3-0 record to take first place honors.
Teachers working with the intramural program are John Riddle, Anna York, David Robinson, Rachel Adams, Barry Pulliam, Judy Weir, Tara Robinette and Tim Howard.
Bagley fielded two teams at Eastbrook. Bagley “B” was made up of Alex Dyer, Ethan Hart, captain Timothy Southerland, Hunter Cox and Jacob Hickman, who was named to the tournament All-Star team with 90 individual points. This group defeated Eastbrook A 125-15, New Hope 50-45, North Whitfield 95-15, Gladden 70-15 and Valley Point 125-25. Their 5-2 record put them in a tie with Gladden, but, based on total points, these academic Braves took first place honors.
The Bagley “A” team, consisting of Clay Chapman, Kris Snare, Bailey Adams, Sarah Beth Cantrell and captain Stetson Gunnoe, defeated Bagley “B,” Valley Point and North Whitfield to finish in fifth place. Rachel Adams and Tim Howard were the coaches for the teams while a number of family members were also on hand for the competition.
There will be a region tournament at Shorter College on Jan. 9, and the Bagley Invitational will be Jan. 27.
