Hamilton to host medicine safety event

Submitted by Hamilton Medical Center

Hamilton Medical Center nurses and pharmacists will help area residents organize their medications during a “Brown Bag Day” event at the Bradley Wellness Center on Friday, Jan. 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (come and go).

Space is limited. Please register by Jan. 25 by calling (706) 272-6114.

“Keeping track of medications can be difficult, particularly for those who take a lot of them,” said Beverly Joy, clinical services advocate at Hamilton. “Medication safety is a top priority at Hamilton.”

If you take prescriptions, you are encouraged to bring all your medications to the event for a free consultation. Hamilton clinicians will help you fill out an up-to-date medicine list —one of the most important things you can have to protect your health and avoid a medicine use problem.

Lunch will be provided, and participants will receive a free Hamilton medication bag.

“We want patients to use the bag to take all their medications to every physician visit so their doctors can make sure they’re taking their medications properly,” said Joy.

Local family practitioner Dr. Brad DeLay will provide medication safety tips and answer participants' questions from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“We (primary care physicians) need to have accurate information about what our patients are taking,” said DeLay. “There are so many people (providers) involved. We want to make sure patients are actually taking what they’re supposed to.”
