Dr. Alan Godlas to lecture on Islam

Dr. Alan Godlas, associate professor in the department of religion at the University of Georgia, Athens (UGA), conduct a seminar entitled, "Comprehending Islam" at Chattanooga State in the faculty/staff dining room located in the Albright Omniplex Building on Monday, March 10, 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. Chattanooga State President Jim Catanzaro and the media services department are sponsoring the event, which is free and open to the public.
A celebrated international lecturer, Dr. Godlas has been invited to deliver papers in Turkey, Iran, Morocco, Uzbekistan, Nigeria and by digital video to Senegal. He has lectured in the United States on the topic of understanding Islam and other related issues for organizations such as CNN, the UGA Institute for Continuing Judicial Education, College of Charleston, Georgia Southwestern State University and churches of diverse denominations.
“This is a special opportunity for members of our community of learning and the community at large to learn why 1.3 billion people are energized and directed by Islam. I am eagerly looking forward to Dr. Godlas’ presentation,” commented Dr. Catanzaro.
Dr. Godlas teaches Islamic Studies and Arabic courses, and a survey course on world religions. In addition, he is a member of the African studies program, medieval studies program, and the Linguistics faculties. He is the director of the "UGA Virtual Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the Islamic World (VCISIW) and co-director of the UGA-Morocco Maymester program. Dr. Godlas is also on the steering committee for the UGA Center for Asian Studies.
