Public asked to help send off C Troop next month
Organizers are asking for the public’s help in sending off the members of C Troop on Monday, March 2, as they prepare for their deployment to Afghanistan.
Current plans are for a ceremony for families at 9:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 510 S. Tibbs Road in Dalton, and a procession through downtown from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m.
The troops will then go to the National Guard Armory on Crawford Street. The public is asked to bring banners, flags, signs, etc., to wave along the route.
The route from First Presbyterian Church is right on Tibbs Road to Walnut Avenue, left on Walnut Avenue to Thornton Avenue, left on Thornton Avenue to Crawford Street, right on Crawford Street to Selvidge Street, left on Selvidge Street to Waugh Street, left on Waugh Street to Thornton Avenue, left on Thornton Avenue to Crawford Street and right on Crawford Street to the Armory.
Ideas and suggestions can be made to the Downtown Dalton Development Authority (DDDA) at (706) 278-3332. If you can help purchase small flags (usually $1) to hand out, please let organizers know.
A commemorative C Troop Deployment�ornament has been developed and will be on sale for $10, with proceeds benefiting the Family Readiness Group that provides help to families during deployment.�If you are willing to help sell the ornament, please call the DDDA.
