Sherman Steed Staten
Mr. Sherman Steed Staten, 78, of Dalton, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009.
He was the son of the late Ben Staten Sr. and Rebecca Williams Staten and was preceded in death by his son, Sherman Steed Staten Jr.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pearline Law, Josie and Lester Bailey, Gladys and Clifford Cochran, Mary Katherine Staten and Hoyt Copeland; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Julia Hope Wood and Arie A. Wood.
Steed was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He was a member of the South Dalton Baptist and owned and operated Steed’s Sport and Hobby Shop (Steed’s Bait Shop) and also worked in the textile Industry for Collins and Aikman.
He is survived by his wife, Kay F. Staten of Dalton; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce Steven and Penny Staten of Dalton; brother and sisters-in-law, Ben Staten Jr. and Lucy of Dalton and Wanda Copeland of Dalton; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Rev. Trammell Campbell and the Rev. Tim Swinney officiating.
Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Love Funeral Home Monday after 5 p.m.
