Summerville residents begin cleanup after Friday storms

by Kevin Myrick , Rome News-Tribune Staff Writer

SUMMERVILLE - Keith Lowe was busy this morning going through the remains of a destroyed trailer on Cleghorn Street where he once lived with his girlfriend and two children.

They weren’t home Friday when storms struck the area and picked the trailer off of its concrete block supports and took the tops off of pine trees in the yard.

“It’d have been horrible if we were home at the time,” Lowe said.

Lowe, along with Holly Alexander and their children Kelsey Lowe and Darien Alexander, were staying with their parents Friday night, and when they returned home found their trailer destroyed after having lived there for three months.

“No one has said much to us about what happened, but we think it was a tornado that touched down,” Linda York, Lowe’s stepmother, said.

Lowe and his family will be staying with his father until they find a new home, but for property owner Lucille Fuller, who lives next door to Lowe, the storm came and went before she fully realized what happened.

“I looked out here and I couldn’t believe my eyes,” she said. “I just thank God it didn’t get my house.”

Damage from the storms wasn’t completely limited to Summerville, as cleanup continues for Georgia Power with 20 customers in the Rome area still without power.
