Summerville tornado confirmed

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in Chattooga County Friday afternoon.

According to the report:

At about 5 p.m. April 10, an EF2 tornado about 200 yards wide with winds up to 120 mph touched down in the Summerville area and caused considerable damage.

More than 30 homes and 10 businesses were damaged, with the majority on Commerce Street. Damage included a collapsed brick wall at a car care center; a mobile home that was completely destroyed when it was ripped from its foundation; a roof that was lifted and shifted on a lumber warehouse; and windows that were blown out of a barbecue restaurant.

Other Friday tornadoes confirmed by the NWS were in Pickens, Chattahoochee, Hancock, Sumter and Crisp counties.
