New leadership for Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council
Submitted by the Prosecuting Attorneysďż˝ Council of Georgia
The Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia announces new leadership for 2009-2010.
Stephen Kelly, District Attorney of the Brunswick Judicial Circuit, will lead the Council as chairman. Barry Morgan, Solicitor-General for Cobb County, will serve as vice chair; and new member Patrick Head, District Attorney for the Cobb Judicial Circuit, will serve as secretary.
Other new members named to the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council include Markette Baker, Solicitor-General of Troup County; and Rick Currie, District Attorney of the Waycross Judicial Circuit.
Other members remaining on the Council include Stan Gunter, District Attorney for the Enotah Judicial Circuit; Tommy Floyd, District Attorney of the Flint Judicial Circuit; Ben Richardson, Solicitor-General of Muscogee County; and Peter Skandalakis, District Attorney of the Coweta Judicial Circuit.
Under Georgia law, the Council consists of nine members, six of whom are district attorneys and three of whom are solicitors-general. All members serve four-year terms on the Council. Officers include a chair, vice chair and secretary.
“I am very honored to serve my fellow prosecutors,” said Chairman Kelley. “Georgia’s prosecutors are some of the most professional, dedicated public servants in the country. We are the only voice that many victims will ever have in the justice system. Having taken furlough days this past fiscal year, Georgia prosecutors have stepped up to the plate to help with the economic crisis. This year the Council will face similar challenges requiring difficult decisions. It will be a delicate balance to economize without sacrificing public safety. Everyday a prosecutor is not in the courtroom, county jails back up and the case backlog increases.”
