Lions, Hawks series delayed by weather
From Staff Reports
The Georgia Independent School Association state baseball tournament doubleheader between Christian Heritage and The Heritage School in Newnan on Saturday was rained out and rescheduled for Monday, Lions coach Noah Stokes said.
The first game Monday in the best-of-three semifinals will start at 1 p.m. and the second one is set for 4 p.m. A third game, if necessary, will probably be played Tuesday afternoon, Stokes said.
“Their coach called us at 8 a.m. (Saturday) and said it had rained a lot down there,” Stokes said. “So we’re going to use our holiday (Memorial Day) to play the doubleheader. We didn’t talk about the ‘if’ game, but I’m assuming it will be played Tuesday.”
There could be a silver lining for the rainout.
Stokes said with a couple of more days to heal, pitcher/first baseman Jarred Cronan could be in the lineup for Monday’s doubleheader.
“There’s a chance he could play,” the Lions coach said. “If he can swing the bat, he might be able to play. I haven’t heard anything from a doctor on that, so I guess I’m just hoping.”
Gray Hutchinson will pitch Game 1 for Christian Heritage and Landon McClure is scheduled to start Game 2.
The Lions expect to face Heritage School ace Jack Duffie, an all-state selection last season, in the first game on Monday. Duffie and the Hawks beat the Lions twice during the season.
The Lions are 14-7 and the No. 4 seed from Region 4-2A. Heritage School is the No. 1-ranked Class 2A team in GISA and goes into the twin bill with a 22-2 record.
