DSC paralegal course starts in January
A few slots still remain for Dalton State College’s Paralegal certificate program which begins Monday, Jan. 12.
The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays until June. Students who successfully complete the program will be qualified to seek jobs assisting attorneys with legal research, or working in the legal departments of corporate and health care organizations, said Pam Partain, director of Continuing Education at Dalton State.
The employment track record of program graduates has been strong, Partain said, adding that Amy Phillips, lead instructor for the program, assures that demand for legal assistants is still strong even in recessionary times. She reported that students in the past have lined up jobs before the class is even finished.
Among the topics covered are legal terminology, court structure, drafting complaints, rules of discovery, deposition summary, legal research and analysis, and preparation of legal briefs. Criminal code, real estate, workers compensation, bankruptcy and others areas of the law are also covered during the course.
Cost of the 135-hour course is $1,300. There is a $200 discount for those who register and pay in full before Jan. 1, Partain said.
