A win for wildlife and future generations

Submitted by Audubon

Statement of Betsy Loyless, Audubon senior vice president for advocacy and policy, on Obama restoration of required agency consultations with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service or NOAA prior to taking federal actions which could harm threatened or endangered species. The action reverses an 11th-hour Bush administration rule that had undermined the Endangered Species Act requirement.

“The Obama administration has given a great gift to wildlife and to future generations. Once again, our nation will follow the letter of the law and the advice of its own best experts before jeopardizing the future of threatened and endangered species. The president has capped his first hundred days with a serious step toward restoring our commitment to this nation’s great natural heritage.”

Now in its second century, Audubon connects people with birds, nature and the environment that supports us all. Our national network of community-based nature centers, chapters, scientific, education and advocacy programs engages millions of people from all walks of life in conservation action to protect and restore the natural world. www.audubon.org
